Program details

Overview

The micro-credential focuses on enterprise networks, building on the earlier Switching and Routing and Essentials of Data Networking micro-credentials. Content centres on connecting previously built local area networks into wide area networks, along with the technologies, equipment, and configurations needed to implement them. Configuration automation and software-defined networking are also covered.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This micro-credential has no formal application and no published academic prerequisite, minimum grade, GPA or English/French test score; BCIT instead recommends, without requiring, that applicants have completed the Essentials of Data Networks (EDN) microcredential or an equivalent introductory networking course covering 80% or more of the EDN objectives, plus hands-on experience with networking equipment or background equivalent to the Network Switching and Routing microcredential. Students register directly for the required courses and are given two years to complete the program. International applicants may enrol only if studying from outside Canada or holding valid Canadian status other than a study permit; a study permit does not qualify a student for this program. On completing the courses, students email the program contact with their name, student number and mailing address to receive the credential.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and April
Application Deadline: BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
