Overview
The Computer Systems Diploma introduces object-oriented design problems and building applications in C++, along with using Algorithms, design patterns and higher-level computing skills. Additionally, you'll work in teams and gain hands-on experience with security foundations, how to leverage data communications and operating systems in advanced software and web applications. There is also a foundation of project management, and statistics along with an overview of the Canadian legal system applying to IT issues, copyright, trademarks and privacy. The purpose of the CST Diploma is to provide advanced programming skills for application, web, and systems development in order to prepare students for intermediate Computing careers. Once you graduate, you may move on to the CST Bachelor of Technology or look for employment in the IT industry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to this diploma requires prior completion of BCIT's Computer Systems Certificate (CSC), including its Communications, Java, C and Architecture courses; applicants must have finished the CSC or be enrolled in its final term when they apply. Students who completed the CSC more than five years earlier, or who hold department-approved equivalent education, may be required to take additional courses. English language proficiency, BCIT's Category 2 standard of English Studies 12 at 67% or equivalent, is satisfied through the CSC's own COMM 110x course. Applicants who meet all requirements are admitted on a first-qualified basis as space allows; the diploma must be completed within two to five years.

Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own.
