Biochemistry is a Bachelor of Science offered by Brock University's Faculty of Mathematics and Science, taught in combined teaching and research laboratories using the same equipment used in faculty research. The programme begins with core courses in chemistry, cell biology and molecular biology, and in years three and four students may emphasize biology or chemistry through courses in metabolism and energy flow, protein structure and function, macromolecular structures, molecular genetics, and bio-organic and biophysical chemistry. A co-op option is available, adding three four-month work terms alongside coursework. Both the regular and co-op streams conclude with an eight-month honours thesis in which students conduct original research under the supervision of a faculty member. Career paths include medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical research and marketing, research science, and toxicology.
