Overview
The Master of Accountancy (MAcc) at Brock University is offered by the Goodman School of Business and is designed for graduates of Goodman's Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) program. The course-based program covers the CPA elective modules of Assurance, Tax, Finance and Performance Management, along with the Capstone 1 and 2 content that prepares students for the Common Final Exam (CFE) leading to the CPA designation. The curriculum develops critical thinking, analysis and communication skills for strategic accounting practice. Students complete 10 courses over 8 months of full-time study, or a 12-month full-time option that includes a co-op work term. The program admits students for a January entry point. Graduates are positioned to write the CFE and pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, along with careers in public accounting, corporate finance and related fields. Admission Requirements: Applicants require a four-year Goodman Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) degree with a minimum average of 75% from the last two years of full-time undergraduate study, a minimum 75% academic average in key accounting prerequisite courses (ACTG courses, FNCE 2P91 and 3P93), and a minimum 60% in prerequisite courses covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, Canadian business law, business ethics, business strategy, corporate finance I and II, introductory financial and management accounting, accounting information systems, accounting for external reporting I-IV, cost and managerial accounting I and II, taxation I-III, auditing concepts, external auditing I and II, accounting theory, and integration problem solving. Applicants required to provide proof of English proficiency must achieve a minimum IELTS score of 7.5 (a minimum of 6.5 in each section is recommended), or an approved equivalent. Applications require transcripts from all previous post-secondary study, two academic references from business faculty members, a statement of interest, and a resume.
