The Biotechnology PhD at Brock University is a thesis-based doctoral program offered by the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, covering chemical and gene biotechnology. Chemical biotechnology applies chemistry tools and techniques to biological processes, while gene biotechnology uses DNA technology, bioinformatics and microbiological methods to study biological phenomena. The program offers two specializations: Chemical Biotechnology and Gene Biotechnology. Admission requires a faculty member in the Biotechnology program to agree to supervise the student's research, identified in a statement of research interest submitted with three references. The program runs for 12 terms (four years) of full-time study and culminates in a doctoral thesis. Students can begin the program in the September, January or May intake. Graduates of the program go on to work in pharmaceuticals and human health, food science and nutritional biochemistry, environment and energy, and biotechnology-related finance and policy roles. The degree is awarded as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
