Lakehead University's PhD in Biotechnology is a research-based, interdisciplinary graduate program focused on the professional development of scientists, using living organisms and cellular or bio-molecular processes to develop new products, solve problems, and create new production methods. Students specialize in either Medical Biotechnology or Environmental Biotechnology, the latter covering toxicology, waste, and emissions. The program combines coursework, independent research, and seminars, preparing graduates for careers at universities, research institutes, and biotechnology companies in Canada and abroad. It is completed at the Thunder Bay campus over a minimum of nine terms (three years) to a maximum of twelve terms (four years) of continuous full-time registration, including a minimum residency of three terms, two of which must be consecutive.
