Program details

Overview

Delivered jointly by the Victoria Conservatory of Music and the college, the diploma responds to a growing demand for versatility in performance style among working musicians. Training addresses the rising use of music technology in creating, capturing and transferring music, moving away from purely traditional methods. Graduates receive practical training intended to build the skills needed for a contemporary music career.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Music Performance Diploma requires one of: a C+ in English 12, or a C in English 12 Camosun Alternative. Applicants submit two forms — the standard Camosun application and a Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) application carrying its own CAD 105 fee — against three yearly application deadlines (February 28, April 15 and May 1). The VCM process requires proof of assessment in three areas: Performance (demonstrated ability on a principal instrument through repertoire and technique matched to the applicant's professional goals, with evidence of prior music activity); Aural Theory (pitch-matching, singing basic melodic intervals, and identifying basic chords and scales by ear); and Written Theory, assessed via a Theory Placement Assessment unless the applicant has already completed MUSF 121, MUSC 111, or RCM Grade 8 theory with a C or higher. No minimum GPA and no separate English-language test score (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE) are published on the programme's admissions page.

Application Details

Start Date: One start a year, in September (Fall term). Camosun lists this as an open-enrolment programme, so the intake is not capped.
Application Deadline: DOMESTIC APPLICANTS follow Camosun's college-wide open-enrolment schedule, not a date set by this programme. For the Fall 2027 (September start) intake applications open 1 October 2026, the early deadline is 15 May 2027 and the final deadline is 26 August 2027. Applying by the early date puts your file in front of Admissions in time for priority course registration; nothing is accepted after the final date. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS have a separate deadline of 1 June for the September (Fall) start. It holds only while seats remain, so a popular intake can close sooner; a later application may still be looked at if seats are open and there is time to obtain a study permit. Music applicants have two applications to complete, one to Camosun and one to the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and both are needed for admission; the Conservatory sets its own deadlines. Domestic and international applicants both apply online through EducationPlannerBC (apply.educationplannerbc.ca/camosun).
