Overview
The Music Technologies Certificate is offered exclusively online through a partnership between the Victoria Conservatory of Music and Camosun College. Designed for accomplished musicians, this program will allow you to acquire a basic competency in digital technologies applicable to modern practice in professional music-making. You will learn about digital notation, music sequencing, digital instrumentation, audio recording, mixing and editing. Upon successful completion of the certificate, you'll be well-prepared to apply basic music technologies to the active practice of music in a professional or educational setting, or to continue to the advanced study of individual technologies for personal or professional use.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to the Music Technologies Certificate runs through two simultaneous applications: one to Camosun and one to the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM). Applicants must demonstrate Minimum Music Competency, equivalent to C or higher in MUSC 111 and MUSC 120, either by submitting a sealed official post-secondary transcript showing that coursework to the VCM, or by sitting a Music Department Entrance Examination at the VCM, for an additional fee, covering written and aural music-theory rudiments and the history of Western music over the past two millennia. If no transcript accompanies the VCM application, the college assumes the entrance examination is being requested and charges the associated assessment fee. Competency must be demonstrated in full before the application deadline and before admission is granted. VCM applications are accepted until August 15 for fall admission, December 1 for winter admission, and April 1 for spring/summer admission, or until the programme reaches capacity; later applicants are placed on a waiting list for a future term. No minimum GPA or standardized English-language test score is stated.
