Program details

Overview

Intended for students who need additional preparation before further music study, the certificate combines group theory and rudiments instruction with one-to-one studio lessons. Coursework focuses on performance theory, creative development and performance practice, building foundational skills in each student's chosen area of music while offering guided chances to explore creative practice. Completion is intended to prepare students for entry into the college's diploma program in music performance.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Music Creativity and Performance Foundations Certificate requires one of: a C+ in English 12, or a C in English 12 Camosun Alternative. On top of the academic requirement, applicants must submit two separate application forms: the standard Camosun application and a Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) application, and the VCM form additionally asks for two letters of reference addressing the applicant's musical skills, accomplishments and suitability for postsecondary study in music. The programme page states no minimum GPA, audition score, or English-language test requirement (no IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL figure is published); applicants meet the language condition through the stated English 12-equivalent grade, and Camosun asks for proof of that grade or higher at application.

Application Details

Start Date: One start a year, in September (Fall term). Camosun lists this as an open-enrolment programme, so the intake is not capped.
Application Deadline: DOMESTIC APPLICANTS follow Camosun's college-wide open-enrolment schedule, not a date set by this programme. For the Fall 2027 (September start) intake applications open 1 October 2026, the early deadline is 15 May 2027 and the final deadline is 26 August 2027. Applying by the early date puts your file in front of Admissions in time for priority course registration; nothing is accepted after the final date. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS have a separate deadline of 1 June for the September (Fall) start. It holds only while seats remain, so a popular intake can close sooner; a later application may still be looked at if seats are open and there is time to obtain a study permit. Music applicants have two applications to complete, one to Camosun and one to the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and both are needed for admission; the Conservatory sets its own deadlines. Domestic and international applicants both apply online through EducationPlannerBC (apply.educationplannerbc.ca/camosun).
