Overview
The Documentary Certificate helps you build the skills needed to produce, direct, write and edit documentary or specialized productions, under the mentorship of filmmakers. The program follows a professional production cycle from story concept and development, to pre-production, production, post-production and distribution and marketing phases. Graduates have gone on to work in a variety of entry-level roles, from research to post-production to producing community television.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic entry requires either BC secondary school graduation (Grade 12) or successful completion of testing and/or upgrading in English or Math skills. Program-specific conditions add an interview and a two-to-three-page essay or letter describing the applicant's interest in the documentary and factual-entertainment field and any related prior experience. Applicants educated in a language other than English must meet Capilano's general English Language Requirement, referenced on the programme page: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 83, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 56, or Duolingo English Test 125+ (no sub-score below 115). No minimum GPA, portfolio, or standardized academic average is stated.
