Overview
This 30-credit certificate offers theoretical and practical training in film screenwriting, offered at the Montreal campus on a full-time or part-time basis with fall admission only. Five mandatory courses (18 credits) include a screenwriting workshop, a course on plot and script structure, and a culminating script project worth six credits in which students complete an original screenplay under supervision. Students then choose four complementary courses (12 credits) from topics such as dialogue in cinema and world cinema, broadening their critical and cultural understanding of the medium alongside the practical writing work. The program develops expertise in the specific craft of screenwriting, including narrative construction, dialogue, and genre conventions, combined with practical scriptwriting techniques used in the film industry. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry is via a DEC or equivalent diploma. Applicants with relevant experience may qualify at age 21 or older. Those with prior university study need at least three university courses (9 credits) completed with a minimum average of 2.0/4.3. Candidates with a diploma from outside Quebec need at least 13 years of schooling. Admission is offered in the fall trimester only.
