Overview
The Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) Certificate provides the core procedures for civil and family law litigation, wills and probate, corporate law, real estate conveyancing and mortgaging. Your classroom skill training will prepare you for proper handling of legal documents and a comprehensive understanding of legal terminology and court systems. Before successful completion of your certificate, you'll gain hands-on practice in a law firm or legal department working alongside lawyers, paralegals and legal administrative assistants and benefiting from their mentorship and experience with legal office procedures.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent. The programme page defers to Capilano's general English Language Requirements for applicants educated in a language other than English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 83, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 56, or Duolingo English Test 125+ (no sub-score below 115). Applicants also submit a resume and a letter of reference. Grade 12 students may apply for conditional admission on their final Grade 11 and/or interim Grade 12 marks through EducationPlannerBC, with final admission depending on graduation and meeting programme requirements. The certificate runs Spring and Fall intakes.
