Overview
This certificate is primarily for individuals who are interested in working within the justice system and students who wish to focus their criminology undergraduate studies on courses that relate to the law and legal studies. If you want to study law and legal institutions in different social, economic and philosophical contexts, then you will be interested in this program. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Declaration into the certificate requires that the student already hold, or be in the process of gaining, admission to SFU, and complete one of CRIM 335 (Human Rights and Civil Liberties) or CRIM 338 (Philosophy of Law) with a grade of C- or better before applying in writing to the School of Criminology's undergraduate advisor for certificate approval. Once declared, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 to continue in the program and to graduate, with a minimum grade of C- required in every course counted toward the certificate; a CGPA below 2.25 also blocks enrolment in upper-division CRIM courses. Applicants must otherwise meet SFU's standard undergraduate admission deadlines and submit application forms and official documents to Student Services. No English-language test score, interview, portfolio or other non-academic condition is stated for this certificate.

Fall 2027 entry: high-school-route applications open 1 October 2026 and close 31 January 2027, while transfer applications open 1 March 2027 and close 15 April 2027 (Education and Contemporary Arts transfer applicants may apply from 1 October 2026). Spring 2027 entry runs 1 July to 15 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry runs 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027.
