Computational and Applied Mathematics and Statistics is a Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) offered by Carleton University's Faculty of Science as an Honours programme. Students develop knowledge and skills for applying computing to problems in business, government and science, such as protecting digital information during transmission, allocating resources for organizations, building predictive models in public health or environmental science, and analyzing networks with algorithms. The programme offers three concentrations: Applied Analysis, Applied Statistics and Probability, and Discrete Mathematics. A Co-op option provides paid work terms for employability skill development and workplace experience. Sample courses include Combinatorial Optimization, covering network flow problems and approximation algorithms, and Mathematical Cryptography, covering public key cryptography and elliptic curve cryptosystems. Graduates pursue careers in data management, finance and insurance, applying the mathematical and computational skills built through the programme.
