Information Resource Management (IRM) is a specialization of Carleton University's Bachelor of Information Technology, delivered jointly with Algonquin College so graduates earn a Carleton degree and an Algonquin Library and Information Technician diploma. The programme teaches students to use emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to collect, manage, analyze and visualize large volumes of information, building competencies in data analytics and AI grounded in traditional library and information science principles. Students have access to a dedicated 24/7 computer lab equipped with industry-standard software. Sample courses include Web Interface Development, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML and JSON, and Introduction to Deep Learning, covering classification, regression, optimization and neural network models. A paid co-op option offers work terms of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 months, and Ottawa's concentration of government agencies and high-tech companies is cited as a location advantage. Graduates have been employed at the Canadian Coast Guard, the Department of National Defence, Employment and Social Development Canada, the National Research Council and Statistics Canada, in data analysis, web design, digital information management, library services and research data management.
