The Master of Arts in Political Economy exposes students to the core concepts of political economy and gives them the opportunity to develop an individual area of research concentration, focusing on the relationship between the economy and politics and how this relationship affects the social and cultural life of societies. The curriculum draws on courses with a political economy orientation offered by other departments, schools and institutes across the university, and includes a placement course as an experiential learning option. Students choose between a research-essay pathway and a thesis pathway. Research areas include feminist political economy, resource extraction, and water, food and environmental politics, as well as labour studies. The program is delivered in person and normally takes two years of full-time study to complete. Admission is offered for the Fall term. Graduates are prepared for further doctoral study or research and policy roles.
