PGDip in Social Statistics and Data Analysis

This program leads to a Graduate Diploma in Social Statistics and Data Analysis, delivered on campus at Carleton University, among the first such programs in Canada aimed at social science audiences. Coursework provides education and training in quantitative social research methods and survey data analysis, emphasizing applied statistical practice over mathematical theory, and covers the full quantitative research process from planning and design through data collection, analysis, and communicating results. Topics include observational and experimental research methods, meta-analysis, measurement and sampling theory, and advanced statistical techniques, taught using common and specialized statistical software. The program does not require a prior statistics course. It is offered to students currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program as a concurrent diploma, and to professionals as a stand-alone credential. It may appeal to students in psychology, public policy and administration, political science, cognitive and health sciences, and engineering, and prepares graduates for roles in federal departments relying on survey methods and data, such as Statistics Canada. Entry is offered in the Fall term.
