Overview
Forest Management Technology (190.B0) is a three-year technical DEC at Cégep de Baie-Comeau built around three areas: forest knowledge, forest management and protection, and forest administration. Coursework includes dendrology, forest cartography and inventory, silviculture, forest ecology, entomology and forest pathology, fire prevention, and sustainable-management practice, combining classroom instruction with fieldwork conducted directly in the forest. The program runs across six sessions with optional summer work-study placements and a capstone synthesis project in the final term. The college also offers a related one-year Forest Inventories and Environment AEC, which students already enrolled in the DEC can add to their schedule in coordination with an academic advisor. The program suits students who are drawn to outdoor and nature-based work, environmentally conscious, interested in applied research, and able to work in teams and take on leadership roles in field settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Cégep de Baie-Comeau admits applicants who hold a Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES, youth or adult sector), or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) plus Secondary 5 language of instruction, Secondary 5 second language and Secondary 4 mathematics, or an equivalent formation (a recognised foreign credential, 30 completed university credits, a 900-hour AEC with demonstrated equivalency, or a Secondary Studies Equivalency Certificate); up to six missing DES units, or one missing DEP subject, can be completed in the first semester. No English or French proficiency test is published; applications go through the Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec (SRACQ). The programme page states no subject prerequisites of its own beyond the college's general admission conditions, and no portfolio or interview is required. Students who wish to leave with the shorter Inventaires et environnement forestier AEC credential rather than completing the full DEC must declare this to their Academic Planning Advisor early on, who adjusts their course sequence accordingly; after two semesters they choose between exiting with the AEC or continuing toward the DEC.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec (SRACQ): for the September 2027 intake, admission rounds close 1 March, 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027, and for January 2027 entry the rounds close 1 November and 1 December 2026, then 2 January 2027. Requests submitted after the final round are not automatically rejected but must go through the registrar's office directly, so admission effectively continues while seats remain. International applicants first complete an information-request form and are then contacted individually by the college's international development advisor; the Cégep publishes no fixed international application deadline for the 2027 cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
