Overview
Civil Engineering Technology: Sustainable Construction is a three-year technical DEC at Cégep de Baie-Comeau preparing technologists to work across structural, municipal, road, geotechnical and environmental engineering. Coursework spans surveying and topometry, computer-aided design and structural analysis, concrete and aggregate technology, soil mechanics, road geometry and construction, municipal engineering, building information modelling, timber and steel structures, and project management, with attention to environmental considerations in construction work. Graduates are trained to perform surveying, material sampling and testing, plan and specification drafting, infrastructure inspection and construction-site supervision. The program is delivered over six sessions with optional summer work-study placements and a capstone project in the final session. It suits students interested in construction and structural design who enjoy both outdoor and office-based technical work, have good observation and methodical problem-solving skills, and can take on supervisory responsibility on site.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Cégep de Baie-Comeau admits applicants who hold a Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES, youth or adult sector), or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) plus Secondary 5 language of instruction, Secondary 5 second language and Secondary 4 mathematics, or an equivalent formation (a recognised foreign credential, 30 completed university credits, a 900-hour AEC with demonstrated equivalency, or a Secondary Studies Equivalency Certificate); up to six missing DES units, or one missing DEP subject, can be completed in the first semester. No English or French proficiency test is published; applications go through the Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec (SRACQ). The programme itself additionally requires Mathematics TS or SN Secondary 5 (code 526, equivalent to college course 201-015-50) and one of: ST and STE Secondary 4, ATS and SE Secondary 4, or Physical Science 436, or the adult-sector equivalents. Applicants with only TS or SN Mathematics Secondary 4 (code 426) may enter through the Tremplin DEC pathway, complete the missing mathematics there, and continue into the programme without extending their studies; no portfolio or interview is stated.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec (SRACQ): for the September 2027 intake, admission rounds close 1 March, 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027, and for January 2027 entry the rounds close 1 November and 1 December 2026, then 2 January 2027. Requests submitted after the final round are not automatically rejected but must go through the registrar's office directly, so admission effectively continues while seats remain. International applicants first complete an information-request form and are then contacted individually by the college's international development advisor; the Cégep publishes no fixed international application deadline for the 2027 cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
