Diploma in Forest Technology

Forest Technology is a two-year diploma program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, delivered on campus in Edmonton, that provides the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to manage Alberta's forests responsibly and sustainably under the province's Forests Act. Students study forest ecology, wildfire suppression, reforestation, forest legislation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) alongside broader forest management topics such as reclamation, insects and disease, watersheds, forest engineering, wildlife habitat, recreation, soils, and harvest planning. The program combines field activities, classroom lectures, and data analysis and is designed for students who are comfortable working outdoors and with technology. Graduates are prepared for careers in forestry, environmental consulting, and land management. It suits students passionate about the environment who want a field-oriented technologist credential grounded in practical forest management skills.
