Program details
Overview
Adventure Tourism Techniques is a three-year technical Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC, program code 414.B0) offered by Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles at its Gaspé campus, with limited (contingent) enrolment. The program trains students to plan, lead and guide outdoor excursions, teaching summer and winter skills, interpreting the natural environment, navigating with maps and instruments, and maintaining specialized equipment. Instruction is organized around four core disciplines: sea kayaking, canoeing, mountain skiing and hiking, alongside courses in risk management, leadership, client relations and expedition design. Over six sessions students can earn industry-recognized certifications in areas such as sea kayaking, whitewater rescue and advanced wilderness first aid, and complete two work placements: a short exploratory placement in the second session and a two-week full-time internship in summer. The Gaspésie region's mountains, rivers and coastline serve as the program's training grounds. It suits students seeking outdoor-leadership careers as adventure guides or excursion coordinators, and graduates report full placement in Quebec after completion.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to Adventure Tourism follows the cégep's general collegial admission requirements: a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES) or Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP), completed with Secondary 5 Language of Instruction, Secondary 5 Second Language, and Secondary 4 Mathematics. Because places are limited, applicants are then selected on good physical health, relevant experience and aptitudes, and the quality of their academic record; candidates must submit a medical evaluation certificate, a declaration accepting the risks of and consenting to participation in outdoor activities, and a form describing their experience and aptitudes, through the SRACQ application forms. Physical condition is validated in the pool and during outdoor activities each session, with individualised follow-up offered where results fall short. Instruction is in French; the page publishes no separate French- or English-language test score.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through SRACQ (Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec) for programmes starting in 2027: the Fall 2027 intake has a first-round deadline of 1 March 2027, with further rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027 filling remaining seats; the Winter 2027 intake closes its first round on 1 November 2026, then 1 December 2026 and 2 January 2027. International applicants outside France apply through SRACQ from 1 September 2026 and must complete their file by 1 February 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, after which no international candidate can be admitted; Winter entry is offered only to French citizens, who may apply until 1 May 2027 for Fall or between 15 May and 15 October 2027 for Winter 2028. Admission is not indefinitely rolling: each round carries a firm cut-off, though later rounds absorb whatever seats remain. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
