Program details
Overview
Police Technology (Techniques policières) is a three-year, six-session technical Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC, program code 310.A0) offered by Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles at its Gaspé campus. The program combines criminal law and the Quebec legal system with practical policing skills such as crime-scene management, arrest procedures, traffic-incident response, communication and conflict management, physical defence techniques, and community policing approaches for work with diverse and marginalized populations, alongside general education courses. Admission requires a secondary diploma with fifth-secondary language courses and fourth-secondary mathematics. Candidates must be able to swim, hold a valid learner's driver's licence by the end of the first semester, meet medical fitness standards, and pass a criminal record check before internship placement; Canadian citizenship is required to proceed to the Quebec National Police School. The program suits students planning careers in municipal policing, the RCMP, security services or border services, with the college reporting a 98.2 percent employment rate in Quebec for recent graduates.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to Police Technology follows the cégep's general collegial admission requirements: a DES or DEP with Secondary 5 Language of Instruction, Secondary 5 Second Language, and Secondary 4 Mathematics, plus Secondary 4 Mathematics in the Culture, société et technique sequence as the programme's particular requirement. The programme is cohort-capped at 50 places starting in the 2026-2027 school year and is competitive: applications are first ranked on academic record (50% of the ranking, with a bonus for candidates from the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region), then shortlisted candidates attend a selection day combining a group interview and situational writing exercise (15%) and physical tests — a 20-metre shuttle run, push-ups, a plank hold, and a wall-sit (35%). Applicants must know how to swim, must hold at minimum a learner's driving permit by the end of the first session, and may undergo a criminal-record check because the programme includes a police-setting placement, access to which can be refused on that basis. Given the requirements of the École nationale de police du Québec, students must hold Canadian citizenship and meet its medical hiring standards. Instruction is French; no separate language test score is published.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through SRACQ (Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec) for programmes starting in 2027: the Fall 2027 intake has a first-round deadline of 1 March 2027, with further rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027 filling remaining seats; the Winter 2027 intake closes its first round on 1 November 2026, then 1 December 2026 and 2 January 2027. International applicants outside France apply through SRACQ from 1 September 2026 and must complete their file by 1 February 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, after which no international candidate can be admitted; Winter entry is offered only to French citizens, who may apply until 1 May 2027 for Fall or between 15 May and 15 October 2027 for Winter 2028. Admission is not indefinitely rolling: each round carries a firm cut-off, though later rounds absorb whatever seats remain. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
