Overview

Technologie minerale (code 271.A0) is a Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered by Cegep de l'Abitibi-Temiscamingue at its Rouyn-Noranda campus, with three specialization tracks: Geologie, Exploitation, and Mineralurgie; this entry covers the Mineralurgie specialization. The program is delivered through a work-study alternance structure, includes a DEC-BAC agreement with l'Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi, and other university-transfer arrangements. Admission requires Technical and Scientific Mathematics (TS), Natural Sciences Mathematics (SN), or Common Core Mathematics (CST) from the fourth year of Quebec secondary school, plus Science and Technology (STE) or Environmental Science (SE) from the same year. Students in the Mineralurgie track focus on the laboratory and process side of mining, learning the techniques used to concentrate, upgrade, and treat ore, including sample preparation, particle-size analysis, crushing and grinding, and later, grinding-circuit optimization and solid-liquid separation processes such as thickening and filtration, building on shared coursework common to all three specializations. Internships in a regional mineral-processing plant let students apply process-control and laboratory-analysis skills, and the program concludes with a specialization-specific synthesis project. Graduates typically work as mineral-processing (mineralurgie) technologists or technicians, in laboratory or plant-control roles. The program suits students who prefer analytical, laboratory-based work over fieldwork, are methodical, and want to apply chemistry and process-control principles to ore treatment.

Requirements
