Program details

Overview

Arts, lettres et communication - option Cinema (code 500.AG) is a pre-university Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered by Cegep de l'Abitibi-Temiscamingue at its Rouyn-Noranda campus, with a university-transfer agreement to l'Universite du Quebec en Abitibi-Temiscamingue specific to the Cinema option. The program has no specific secondary-school subject prerequisite. It builds skills in analyzing cultural works and developing creativity, with the Cinema option adding hands-on filmmaking from scriptwriting through to editing, alongside the study of other filmmakers' work and film analysis. Across the broader program, students create and launch a website, produce a short film, take part in inter-college competitions and festivals, and meet working artists. The college notes that the course sequence is being updated starting fall 2026, with both the current and forthcoming versions published for students to consult. Graduates are positioned for university study in fields such as teaching, public relations, journalism, film studies, screenwriting, graphic design, animation and cultural research, communication, and multimedia, since the option gives access to most university programs that do not require a science or mathematics prerequisite. The program suits students who want to develop creativity and cultural analysis skills specifically through filmmaking, alongside a broad humanities-oriented pre-university education.
