Program details
Overview
This two-year pre-university diploma centers on multidisciplinary visual arts creation, combining studio practice with art history and critical analysis. Students work across drawing, painting, sculpture, molding, digital imaging and video art, moving from foundational courses in observational drawing, color theory, photography and introductory sculpture toward advanced painting, sculpture and video-art courses that culminate in an integrative creation project. General education in French, philosophy, English and physical education runs alongside the four studio semesters. The program suits students who are artistic, manually skilled, observant and critically minded, and who want to build a personal creative practice before pursuing further study. Learners have access to dedicated studios and workshops, take part in exhibitions and cultural outings such as an annual arts-and-design week, and can carry their portfolio into university programs in visual arts, design or related fields, since most university programs remain accessible after this DEC. Admission follows the college's standard requirements with no enrollment quota.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to Visual Arts - Multidisciplinary Creation follows Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup's general admission conditions; the program page lists no program-specific secondary-school subject prerequisites and no portfolio requirement. Under the general conditions, applicants need a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) with the three mandatory Secondary 5 subjects — language of instruction, second language, and Secondary 4 mathematics — or training and experience judged equivalent for candidates who have interrupted full-time studies for at least 24 months. Candidates missing up to six units toward the DES, or the three mandatory DEP subjects, may be admitted conditionally provided the missing units are completed during their first college session. Applications are submitted online through the Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec (SRACQ). The program carries no enrollment quota (contingentement: aucun) and admits for the fall term. No language-proficiency test scores are stated.
