Early Childhood Education Techniques is a technical Diploma of College Studies (DEC technique, 322.A1) offered at Cegep de Sainte-Foy, available as a regular three-year program or as an intensive two-year work-integrated-learning (AMT) program, both starting in the fall term; the intensive format is also open to international students. The program develops the skills needed to work with children aged 0 to 12 in early-childhood educational services, supporting children's overall development and guiding their learning in partnership with parents and other professionals. Both formats include a work-integrated-learning component embedding more than 20 percent of coursework directly in childcare settings, and the intensive format follows a schedule of three days at the college and two days in paid employment starting from the second session, aimed at students who have already completed their general-education and complementary coursework. This structure gives students recognized field experience and exposure to different childcare work environments while they study. The program suits students who want to work with young children in an educational capacity and who value learning through direct, paid workplace experience alongside classroom instruction.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This program requires meeting Cegep de Sainte-Foy's general CEGEP admission conditions, as set out on the college's admission page. The regular three-year DEC track has no additional secondary-school prerequisites; applicants meeting the general conditions are typically admitted. An accelerated two-year track (DEC intensif AMT professionnel) is also offered for applicants who have completed, or are completing, all the general-education and complementary courses required at the collegial level. Once hired for placements or employment, students and graduates must pass a criminal record check and hold a valid first-aid certificate, though these are not conditions of admission itself. No French or English language-proficiency test is required. The program is offered starting in the Fall term only and is open to international students.
