Overview
This diploma program at NorQuest College prepares students to work as child and youth care workers supporting children, youth, and families facing social, behavioural, and emotional challenges. The two-year, four-term program uses a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach, covering child and adolescent development, family systems, crisis intervention, and community-based intervention strategies. Students complete 600 hours of work experience across three practicums in settings such as group homes, schools, and community agencies. The program is based at the Edmonton campus. Graduates are prepared for roles including child and youth care worker, group home worker, and outreach worker across group homes, community centres, schools, hospitals, addiction services, and government departments. The programme is not currently open to international students, though it qualifies for a study permit and post-graduate work permit for eligible students.
