Respiratory Therapy Techniques (141.A0) is a three-year Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered at Cegep de Sainte-Foy, with intake in the Fall term only. The program trains cardiorespiratory care and anesthesia-assistance professionals for intensive care units, emergency departments, operating rooms, neonatal units, and pulmonary diagnostic laboratories, covering mechanical ventilation, anesthetic assistance, pulmonary disease management, and emergency intervention. Training includes six clinical placements in hospital settings. Graduates become eligible for membership in the Ordre professionnel des inhalothérapeutes du Québec (OPIQ) and work within multidisciplinary hospital teams. Employers include hospital centres, private clinics, CLSCs, home-care companies, and medical-product sales companies. Students should budget for textbooks costing between $500 and $800 across two sessions, plus roughly $400 for a stethoscope and uniforms at the fourth session.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires meeting Cegep de Sainte-Foy's general CEGEP admission conditions, as published on the college's admission page, plus a mathematics and chemistry prerequisite: Secondary 4 TS or SN Mathematics and Secondary 5 Chemistry, or, under the older curriculum, Mathematics 436 and Chemistry 534. Selection is based on the quality of the applicant's academic record. Because the program includes six hospital-based clinical placements, admitted students must meet the vaccination requirements of the placement sites. No French or English language-proficiency test is stated. The program is offered starting in the Fall term only.
