Program details

Overview

Sciences de la nature (200.B2) is a pre-university Diploma of College Studies (DEC) at Cégep de Sept-Îles built around biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, with elective options in areas such as astrophysics, organic chemistry, human biology, and advanced calculus. The program runs two years and gives students flexibility to select courses aligned with their intended university destination rather than following a fixed specialization track. Training takes place across dedicated chemistry, biology, and physics laboratories, supplemented by field-based scientific activities in maritime and forest settings local to the North Shore region. Students have opportunities to take part in scientific forums and competitions. The program emphasizes building scientific literacy, understanding the relationship between science, technology, and society, and developing collaborative problem-solving skills applicable to complex, real-world questions. It suits students with strong analytical ability and curiosity about scientific principles who intend to continue to university in pure sciences such as geology, physics, or mathematics, applied sciences such as engineering, architecture, or computer science, or health sciences such as medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy.

Admission Requirements: Cegep de Sept-Iles admits applicants to Sciences de la nature (Natural Sciences) on the Diplome d'etudes secondaires (DES), which under the college's general admission conditions requires completed credits in the language of instruction (French) at Secondary 5, a second language (English) at Secondary 5, mathematics and science at Secondary 4, and history and citizenship education at Secondary 4; a Diplome d'etudes professionnelles (DEP) is accepted instead of the DES provided the holder has completed Secondary 5 French, Secondary 5 second language, and Secondary 4 mathematics. On top of these general conditions, this program specifically requires Secondary 5 Mathematiques Technico-sciences or Sciences naturelles, Secondary 5 Physique, and Secondary 5 Chimie. As a French-medium program the college states no separate English-language test score. No minimum grade average, interview, or portfolio is stated for this program.
