Overview
The Mining Engineering Technology program is a 70-week Diploma delivered on campus at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Saskatoon campus, combining classroom instruction, laboratory work, and two four-month paid Co-operative Education work terms. Students apply scientific principles to mining engineering situations across geology, geophysics, surveying, ground control, mine ventilation, and safety, using computer simulations and geology, surveying, mechanical, and materials testing labs to prepare for work in hard and soft rock mining operations. The program begins in August. Admission requires Grade 12 with a minimum of 60% in Pre-Calculus 30; Physics 30 is recommended but not required. Applicants without the standard prerequisites may qualify through ACCUPLACER placement testing. A valid Saskatchewan driver's licence is required before the first co-op work term, and international applicants need a co-op work permit. Graduates are prepared for technical roles in mineral exploration and mining operations.
