Program details
Overview
Early Childhood Education Techniques (Techniques d'éducation à l'enfance) is a technical Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC), program code 322.A1, delivered by Cégep de Victoriaville over six sessions (three years) of full-time study, around 27 to 31 hours per week. The program prepares students to support the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical development of children aged 0 to 12, covering observation techniques, intervention strategies, communication with children and families, health and safety, and the design of appropriate learning environments; laboratory work runs in sessions 1, 2, 4, and 5, and includes nature-based pedagogy workshops. Two credited internships are built into the program: a 240-hour placement in session 3 and a 420-hour placement in session 6. The college's on-site early childhood centre (CPE), including an infant observation room, supports hands-on learning. Graduates typically work in preschools, daycares, schools, community organizations, and recreational services, and some further university pathways exist in early childhood education, special education, psychoeducation, or social work, subject to each program's own admission requirements. The program suits candidates who enjoy childcare work and show responsibility, empathy, and patience toward others.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to Techniques d'éducation à l'enfance carries no program-specific course prerequisite; the program page states 'Aucun préalable spécifique' and applicants must instead meet the Cégep's general admission conditions. Those conditions require a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a vocational diploma (DEP) supplemented by fifth-secondary language of instruction, fifth-secondary second language and fourth-secondary mathematics; levelling courses may be required for older diplomas, and applicants short by up to six DES units can be admitted conditionally if they complete them in their first semester. As a French-medium program no separate English-language score is published. The program page lists no criminal record check, immunization, or interview requirement, and directs applicants with questions to the program coordinator.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through SRACQ (sracq.qc.ca): for the Fall 2027 (August) intake three admission rounds close 1 March, 1 May and 1 June 2027, and for Winter 2027 (January) entry rounds close 1 November, 1 December 2026 and 2 January 2027, each later round admitting only while seats remain. The Cegep does not publish a fixed international application deadline; international applicants follow a separate admission process and must hold a valid CAQ and study permit by the start of August for Fall entry, so early application is recommended. Admission is otherwise processed on a rolling basis as documents are received. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
