Overview
Musique, profil Musique classique (501.A0) is a two-year préuniversitaire DEC at the Cégep de Lanaudière's Joliette campus, with admission in both the fall and winter sessions. The program offers comprehensive musical training aimed at developing expressive qualities and artistic sensitivity, with individual lessons on a principal instrument and a complementary instrument chosen from options including voice, accordion, guitar, piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello and double bass. Students explore various dimensions of the musical world, learn to perform and analyze works, take part in concerts, shows, productions and competitions, and use music technology in a renovated recording studio and technology lab. The Joliette campus is noted for its long-standing musical tradition, its concert hall with a grand piano, individual practice rooms and ensemble rehearsal spaces, and an instrument-and-equipment loan service. The program is intended for students with a passion for classical music who wish to strengthen their instrumental technique, music theory, ear training and sight-singing skills while pursuing further studies or a career connected to music performance.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The programme page states only that admission follows the general admission conditions of Cégep régional de Lanaudière, without listing further programme-specific prerequisites. This programme also requires an instrumental audition plus placement tests in theoretical subjects, with remedial coursework possible depending on the audition result; auditions run over four rounds, in March, May, June and August. Under those conditions, domestic applicants need a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus three specific courses — langue d'enseignement de 5e secondaire, langue seconde de 5e secondaire and mathématiques de 4e secondaire — or, for applicants who have interrupted full-time study for at least 24 consecutive months, training and experience the college judges sufficient. Applications go only through admission.sram.qc.ca, for a non-refundable CAD 30 fee; for Fall 2026 the college lists three rounds, the first-round deadline falling on 1 March 2026. International applicants use the same SRAM portal, and must submit a French-language test accepted by SRAM (waived only for applicants from France) before an admission letter, CAQ and study permit can follow.
