Overview
Arts, lettres et communication, option Langues (500.AL) is a two-year préuniversitaire DEC offered at the Cégep de Lanaudière's Joliette campus, with fall admission and an international component. The program develops proficiency in English, Spanish and German, allowing students to communicate in each language while exploring the historical and cultural roots associated with them. Learning takes place through active-learning classrooms, an intercultural project with an impact within the college or the wider community, and support from language assistants and an English help centre, along with cultural and linguistic trips to countries where the studied languages are spoken. Students also study the civilizations connected to these languages and explore anglophone, Indigenous, francophone and migrant literature. The option is designed for students with a strong interest in languages, cultures and travel who are open-minded and collaborative, and who are preparing for university studies, particularly in fields related to languages, international relations or intercultural communication. It can also be combined with the Musique program through the Cégep's double DEC option at the Joliette campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The programme page states only that admission follows the general admission conditions of Cégep régional de Lanaudière, without listing further programme-specific prerequisites. This programme additionally requires an English-language placement test, with a minimum result of level 101 (intermediate) needed to proceed without upgrading. Under those conditions, domestic applicants need a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus three specific courses — langue d'enseignement de 5e secondaire, langue seconde de 5e secondaire and mathématiques de 4e secondaire — or, for applicants who have interrupted full-time study for at least 24 consecutive months, training and experience the college judges sufficient. Applications go only through admission.sram.qc.ca, for a non-refundable CAD 30 fee; for Fall 2026 the college lists three rounds, the first-round deadline falling on 1 March 2026. International applicants use the same SRAM portal, and must submit a French-language test accepted by SRAM (waived only for applicants from France) before an admission letter, CAQ and study permit can follow.

International applicants follow a separate SRAM timeline: applications for Fall 2027 opened 15 March 2026 and close 14 March 2027, while Winter 2028 applications open 1 June 2026 and close 31 May 2027. Admission is not open-ended rolling, but SRAM runs successive rounds for as long as places remain. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
