Program details

Overview

Arts, lettres et communication, option Cinéma (500.AG) is a two-year préuniversitaire DEC offered at the Cégep de Lanaudière's Joliette campus, with admission in the fall. The program combines the theoretical, historical and practical study of cinema with coursework in art history, literature, Quebec culture, linguistics and languages. Students learn about the world of film and communications, explore other modes of artistic expression such as photography, writing and theatre, study visual language and the elements that shape media imagery, use specialized photo and video equipment and software, and develop critical judgment through the analysis of major cinematic works. The Joliette campus offers partnerships with cultural organizations, including the Centre culturel Desjardins and Cinéma RGFM, and involvement in multidisciplinary creative projects and cultural activities such as film competitions and conferences with writers, artists and filmmakers. The program suits students who are creative, curious about visual communication and drawn to cinema, and who are preparing for university studies in fields such as film, communications or cultural studies. It can also be combined with the Musique program through the Cégep's double DEC option.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The programme page states only that admission follows the general admission conditions of Cégep régional de Lanaudière, without listing further programme-specific prerequisites. Under those conditions, domestic applicants need a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus three specific courses — langue d'enseignement de 5e secondaire, langue seconde de 5e secondaire and mathématiques de 4e secondaire — or, for applicants who have interrupted full-time study for at least 24 consecutive months, training and experience the college judges sufficient. Applications go only through admission.sram.qc.ca, for a non-refundable CAD 30 fee; for Fall 2026 the college lists three rounds, the first-round deadline falling on 1 March 2026. International applicants use the same SRAM portal, and must submit a French-language test accepted by SRAM (waived only for applicants from France) before an admission letter, CAQ and study permit can follow.
