Program details

Overview

Techniques d'éducation à l'enfance is a three-year, full-time technical DEC at the main Salaberry-de-Valleyfield campus, with fall and winter intakes. According to the page, the program trains early-childhood educators to get to know children's worlds, accompany their discoveries, design educational activities suited to each child's overall development, include children with special needs, arrange safe spaces for movement and play, and build meaningful bonds with children. Typical work settings named on the page include CPE early-childhood centres, daycares, home-based childcare, and before- and after-school care services. A defining structural feature is an apprentissage en milieu de travail (work-integrated learning) component, stated to account for more than twenty percent of training hours spent in real workplaces, alongside two internships integrated into the program in school-based and preschool educational services and the option of two additional paid work-study (ATE) placements. Students also engage in direct, exploratory observation of children at the college's affiliated early-childhood centre and can access the Matériathèque, a documentation lab holding books, intervention tools, and teaching materials. It suits students planning careers directly caring for and educating young children.

Requirements

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through SRAM: the college's most recently published Fall cycle (Fall 2026) opened 13 January 2026 with a first-round deadline of 1 March 2026, 23:59, and the same 1 March pattern is expected to recur for Fall 2027; Winter 2027 entry opens mid-September 2026 with a first-round deadline of 1 November 2026, 23:59. Valleyfield publishes no fixed international application dates: for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 cycles it accepts only international applicants already living in Quebec who completed part of their secondary or vocational studies there, so the general SRAM international calendar does not apply.
