Overview
Women's Studies, offered through Concordia's Simone de Beauvoir Institute, is the oldest women's studies program in Canada. It examines the role of women in society, past and present, through the lens of gender, race, class and sexual orientation, covering the history of women's oppression and resistance and media representations of women and consumer culture. Students are encouraged to organize colloquia, workshops and debates, and to collaborate with community organizations on research and service projects. The program is offered as a 60-credit Specialization, 42-credit Major, 30-credit Minor or 30-credit Certificate. Full-time study takes a minimum of three to four years (90-120 credits), with classes held on the Sir George Williams campus in Montreal and admission in the Fall or Winter term. Graduates pursue careers in social sciences, law, international development, community organizations, or further graduate study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Quebec CEGEP applicants need a 20 overall average; Ontario and other Canadian high-school applicants need a C+ overall average; IB Diploma applicants need 26 points overall; Baccalauréat français applicants need 11 overall; university transfer applicants need a C average overall. Concordia's institution-wide English proficiency minimum applies unless exempt: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 70, or Duolingo 105. Fall applications are due March 1 and Winter applications November 1.
