Overview
Motive Power Technician - Truck and Coach is a two-year Ontario College Diploma delivered in person at Conestoga's Cambridge - Reuter Drive campus, preparing students for heavy vehicle repair and maintenance careers. Training happens in over 17,000 square feet of dedicated shop space using industry-standard tools and equipment, and the program includes Levels 1 and 2 of apprenticeship schooling for a head start toward certification. Students also explore career paths beyond the shop floor, including business development, customer service and parts management.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or mature student status for applicants 19 years of age or older, with Grade 12 compulsory English at the C or U level (or Conestoga's Preparatory Communications) and Grade 12 Mathematics at the C or U level (or Conestoga's Preparatory Mathematics for Trades). The program page defers English proficiency for non-English-instruction transcripts to Conestoga's institution-wide standard published on the college's international admission requirements page: for diploma and certificate programs this is IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no skill below 20, PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo 110. Canadian citizens and permanent residents with transcripts from outside Canada must obtain a course-by-course credential evaluation from an approved provider. This is a highly competitive program with application deadlines of February 1 (fall), July 15 (winter), and November 1 (spring).

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca (college code CONS): for the Fall 2027 intake the online application opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, offers may be issued from 1 November 2026, and accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027; most oversubscribed programs stop accepting applications after 1 February 2027, though many programs remain open afterward. Conestoga does not publish a separate equal-consideration date for its January intake. International applicants apply directly to Conestoga and are assessed on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis until each program fills; no fixed international closing date is published.
