Program details

Overview

Financial Planning Services is an eight-month Ontario College Graduate Certificate preparing students for careers in the Canadian financial services industry. The program covers the skills needed for client-facing or back-office roles with Canadian banks, insurers, wealth management firms and financial planning firms, spanning two academic terms of coursework. Graduates are eligible to write the CFP exam offered through FP Canada, and students may also challenge the Canadian Securities Course and the Life Licensing Qualifying Program examinations for additional industry credentials. The curriculum combines financial planning theory with practical preparation for professional certification exams, covering topics such as retirement, investment and risk planning for entry-level roles across the financial services sector, positioning graduates to pursue further recognized industry designations after completing the program.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: A two- or three-year diploma or degree from an accredited college or university is required; applicants with an insufficient business background may be required to complete an introductory business course, and a strong background in mathematics is required (students without it complete mathematics testing to determine additional required courses). Canadian applicants with transcripts from outside Canada require a course-by-course credential evaluation, and applicants whose transcripts are not from English-language institutions must demonstrate English language proficiency.
