Overview
This Beedie School of Business certificate concentrates finance training into a single term: a minimum of 12 units built around BUS 806 Principles of Finance, one of BUS 708 Financial Management or BUS 800 Finance Foundations, and six further elective units chosen from BUS 802 Corporate Finance, BUS 814 Derivative Securities I, BUS 827 Principles of Investments, or BUS 888 Special Topics. Coverage spans financial valuation, capital markets, corporate finance decisions, and portfolio and derivatives analysis: BUS 806 covers the time value of money, discounted cash flow techniques and capital budgeting, while the foundational alternative covers either financial analysis and cost of capital (BUS 708) or the mathematical, statistical, accounting and programming groundwork for finance (BUS 800), and the electives range from financial decision-making under uncertainty to derivatives pricing and investment theory. Applicants follow SFU's standard graduate admission requirements, administered through the Beedie School of Business, and coursework may be substituted at the discretion of the dean and vice-provost of graduate studies.
