Overview
Therapeutic Recreation is a one-year, three-term Ontario College Graduate Certificate delivered full-time at Conestoga's Kitchener - Doon campus. The program teaches students to assess the strengths, needs and leisure interests of clients and to plan, design and implement recreation-based interventions that support physical, cognitive, emotional and social wellbeing. Learning combines classroom instruction, online coursework and simulation-based training, culminating in a field placement that transitions students into professional practice. The program is intended for graduates of a related diploma or degree in a human services or health-related field. Graduates are prepared for roles in schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, nursing homes, retirement homes and community agencies, and are eligible for Therapeutic Recreation Ontario Registration on completion.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario College Diploma, Advanced Diploma, degree, or equivalent, in a human services or health-related field. Applicants whose transcripts are from outside Canada must have them assessed for equivalency through an approved credential-evaluation provider, and applicants whose prior education was not delivered in English must demonstrate English language proficiency.
