Overview
Fitness and Health Promotion is a two-year diploma at Conestoga's Kitchener - Doon campus grounding students in exercise science, personal training, nutrition and health promotion. Classroom learning pairs with practical training and an industry placement in a real fitness or health setting, alongside leadership, marketing and entrepreneurial skills. Students can also work toward internationally recognized fitness certifications during their studies.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic entry: an OSSD or equivalent, or mature-student standing at 19 or older, with Grade 12 English (C or U) or Preparatory Communications (COMM1251), and Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U), Preparatory Biology (SCIE1010) or Grade 12 Kinesiology (PSK4U). Conestoga's Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas also meets the requirement, with the Advanced Diplomas and Degrees pathway recommended for anyone planning to continue to a degree. Introductory keyboarding and word-processing ability is expected. Before work-integrated learning, by the deadline in the package issued at the end of first year, students must present Standard First Aid and CPR at Level C, a full immunisation record, and a vulnerable sector police check clear of unpardoned offences; some placements verify COVID-19 vaccination or ask for a check issued within six months. International applicants: Conestoga lists this program at the higher degree-level English minimums - IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no skill below 22, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 120. Anyone holding transcripts from outside Canada, Canadian citizens and permanent residents included, needs a course-by-course credential evaluation from a service such as ICAS or WES, and must show English proficiency if the language of instruction was not English.
