Program details

Overview

Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Conestoga is an Ontario College Advanced Diploma delivered in person at the Kitchener - Doon campus over five terms. Students study anatomy, physiology, pathology and ultrasound physics, including transducer technology and image optimization, then practise abdominal, obstetric and gynecologic examinations in outfitted labs. Clinical placements complement the classroom work so graduates can produce diagnostic-quality images for radiologist interpretation.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic entry: an OSSD or equivalent, or mature-student standing at 19 or older, with Grade 12 English (C or U) or Preparatory Communications (COMM1251); Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U) or Preparatory Mathematics (MATH1420); Grade 11 or 12 Physics (C or U); Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (C or U) or Preparatory Chemistry (SCIE1030); and Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U) or Preparatory Biology (SCIE1010). Conestoga's Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees certificate, or equivalent Academic and Career Entrance courses, satisfies the same requirement, as does the two-term pre-health sciences degree stream once Grade 11 or 12 Physics is added. Biology is recommended to have been completed within five years of the start date and Grade 11 U Chemistry is recommended. Clinical placement in Levels 4 and 5 is compulsory and is arranged at affiliated sites anywhere in Ontario; the college cannot guarantee location, so students must be ready to travel and to fund temporary accommodation, travel, meals and parking themselves. International applicants: Conestoga's standard diploma and certificate English minimums apply - IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no skill below 20, PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo 110. Anyone holding transcripts from outside Canada, Canadian citizens and permanent residents included, needs a course-by-course credential evaluation from a service such as ICAS or WES, and must show English proficiency if the language of instruction was not English.
