The Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies is a two-year undergraduate degree comprising years three and four of Dalhousie's professional architecture program, delivered in person at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning in Halifax. The curriculum covers five areas: design (building and urban design), representation (drawing, modelling, and computer applications), humanities (history, theory, research, and criticism), technology (construction, structure, and environmental systems), and professional practice, which includes professional responsibility, office management, and co-op work terms. Applicants must have completed at least two years of university study in a subject other than architecture, and the program admits about seventy students each September, with priority given to those with a strong academic record and demonstrated design ability. Students who complete the degree without continuing into the Master of Architecture program are described as well prepared for other academic or career paths related to the built environment.
