Human-Computer Interaction is a major within Dalhousie University's Bachelor of Computer Science program that combines computing, design, and human-centred research methods. Students learn to design, build, and evaluate interactive digital systems that are usable, accessible, and responsive to the people who use them. Coursework spans programming and software design alongside interaction design, user experience research, interface prototyping, and usability testing, preparing graduates for roles in user experience (UX) design, product design, interaction design, and front-end development. The program is based on the Halifax campus and admits students each September and January. Students without the prerequisite math and computing background can complete preparatory coursework before beginning the major. Graduates leave with both technical computing skills and design-thinking abilities, positioning them to work at the intersection of software engineering and human-centred design in technology companies, research labs, and design studios.
