This two-year, low-residency Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Nonfiction is offered jointly by Dalhousie University and the University of King's College and is Canada's only MFA dedicated to creative nonfiction. Students develop a book proposal and a full manuscript over the program with mentorship from working publishing industry professionals. The low-residency format combines short in-person residencies with remote coursework, and the program is offered full-time only with a June intake. Applicants require a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent, with a Prior Learning Assessment route available for those who do not meet the standard academic criteria, and must submit a writing portfolio of up to twenty-five double-spaced pages of prose. English language proficiency is assessed against the University of King's College's own requirements for MFA candidates, with additional pathways available through Dalhousie's Faculty of Graduate Studies.
