Program details

Overview

The combined JD/MBA program partners Dalhousie University's Schulich School of Law with the Faculty of Management to award both a Juris Doctor and a Corporate Residency Master of Business Administration. Students develop the ability to analyze complex problems from both legal and business perspectives, integrating law coursework with management theory and practice. A distinctive feature of the program is an eight-month paid corporate residency placement built into the curriculum. All undergraduate degree backgrounds are accepted, and applicants must separately meet the admission standards of both the Corporate Residency MBA and the Juris Doctor programs. Full-time study normally takes four years or longer to complete, with admission each June. Instruction is delivered in person at the Halifax campus. Tuition is charged per course, with the international tuition fee payable for up to four years based on the non-thesis graduate rate. Graduates pursue combined legal and business careers in corporate law, management consulting, and executive leadership roles.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must separately meet the admission standards of both the Corporate Residency MBA and the Juris Doctor (JD) programs, as well as Dalhousie's Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum requirements; all undergraduate degree backgrounds are accepted for consideration. Because the program combines two professional degrees, applicants are directed to the individual JD and Corporate Residency MBA admission pages for specific grade, testing, and application-material requirements. International applicants must also meet Dalhousie's graduate English-language proficiency requirements: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 92 (or 4.5 overall on the 1-6 scale for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026), CAEL 70 with no band under 60, or Pearson PTE Academic 65 with no skill below 54.
