Mechanical Engineering Technology is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Dawson College that trains students to design, build, install and maintain mechanical devices used in manufacturing. Coursework combines conventional equipment such as lathes and welding with CAD design, CNC machining and robotics, and students choose between a Mechanical Design option or an Automated Manufacturing option in their final year. Learning outcomes include machining and operating conventional and CNC equipment, programming and servicing automated equipment, and designing mechanical devices of moderate complexity. The credential is recognized across Canada and, under the TN NAFTA Professionals agreement, allows graduates to work in the United States and Mexico. The program suits students interested in manufacturing, automation and mechanical design. Graduates work as mechanical engineering technologists in CAD/CAM, quality control, research and development, technical sales and project management, and some continue to university engineering programs.
