Professional Photography is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Dawson College that provides experience across all aspects of image making, from photo editing and project management to lighting and studio work. Students learn to manage photo projects from concept to completion, produce imagery on location and in the studio, and apply professional techniques and emerging technologies across photojournalism, editorial, advertising and fashion photography, alongside the business side of running a photography practice. Training takes place in fully equipped studios and dedicated labs, with instruction from industry professionals and optional immersive workshops and paid internships through the Alternance Travail-Etudes option. The program suits students interested in commercial, editorial or fine-art photography. Graduates often establish their own businesses in portraiture, advertising, architecture, fashion or events photography, or work as assistants, editors and production managers, and some continue to university studies in fine arts, film, design or communications. Admission requires a portfolio and a letter of intent.
