Overview
The Basic Musicianship Certificate is for students with an interest in music but little or no formal training. You can also use it to upgrade your existing music skills to prepare for the Music Diploma program at Douglas. Through individual lessons, choral and instrumental ensemble work, and musical theory, you’ll deepen your understanding of music. You'll have the opportunity to audition for one of Douglas’s performance groups and get live performing experience through concerts, recordings and festival appearances.

Admission Requirements: Beyond Douglas College's General College Admission Requirements — which this programme explicitly applies excluding the College's Language Proficiency requirement — this Certificate in Basic Musicianship requires applicants to complete a Course Placement Interview with the programme coordinator or a designated music faculty member, who discusses the applicant's musical background and goals and administers music-literacy and musicianship assessments used for course placement. No academic prerequisite courses, minimum admission GPA or portfolio are stated beyond this; the College instead asks for good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 1.50) to graduate.
