This 30-credit certificate offers training in music through three possible pathways: composition and music for image, performance and musical creation, or a personalized pathway. Depending on the pathway, required and optional courses cover tonal music theory and analysis, counterpoint, orchestration for image, composition, ear training, and the study of musical repertoire. The program develops students' ability to apply technical, theoretical, and musicological knowledge in practice, along with analytical, reflective, and creative capacities, ethical and professional conduct, collaborative musicianship, and the use of music and information technologies. It is offered full-time or part-time, with admission in the fall and winter terms, at the Sherbrooke campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a DEC in music or training judged equivalent for the chosen pathway, and must demonstrate French proficiency at CEFR level B2 (a score of 400 or higher out of 699 on a recognized test) unless exempted. Pathway-specific requirements apply: the composition and music-for-image pathway requires a portfolio, theory qualification exams, and a short interview; the performance and musical-creation pathway requires an instrumental or vocal audition plus theory qualification exams; the personalized pathway requires theory qualification exams, with an instrumental or vocal audition required only for students wishing to take courses from the Instrumental Practice block. The certificate is offered full-time or part-time, with admission in the fall and winter terms.
